About Our Leadership Our Clergy Rabbi Scott M. Nagel

Rabbi Scott Nagel

Scott Nagel thought that he might want to become a rabbi while in high school in Ocean Township, New Jersey, but since he had a passion for science and math he headed off to engineering school upon graduation. At Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, he studied Chemical and Management Engineering

Realizing that his greatest love, that of Judaism, was missing; he transferred to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to pursue a Judaic Studies degree.

Upon graduation, he took a position as the Assistant Director of the Union for Reform Judaism’s Kutz Camp, the North American Federation of Temple Youth’s National Leadership Center, where he worked with Jewish high school students from all over the world. While in that position, Scott also took graduate level education classes at the state University of New York at New Paltz.

Rabbi Nagel entered the rabbinic program at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in the summer of 1999. During his year in Israel he met his future wife, Randi Chudakoff. When he returned to the US, Rabbi Nagel finished his studies at the Cincinnati campus of HUC-JIR, where he worked for three years in the Department of Youth Programs which provides ongoing Jewish education for Reform Jewish high school and college student across North America.

Rabbi Nagel has served as student rabbi in congregation in Rapid City, South Dakota, Selma Alabama, and Piqua, Ohio, before coming to Temple Oheb Shalom after his (and Randi’s) ordination on June 5, 2004.
